Acoustic Properties

One of the prime requirements of the internal surfaces of sports facilities is that they are strong and durable. To this end, the internal wall surfaces typically comprise of painted high density block work, brickwork or timber cladding.

When sound hits these hard surfaces, it bounces back into the hall and this results in high noise levels and poor speech intelligibility.

Acoustic Sound absorption panels in a Sports Hall

Sports Hall - Wallsorba

Soundsorba helped bring the acoustics of a brand new school sports hall up to the Building Bulletin 93 regulations for acoustics in a school sports halls. Sports halls have long reverberation times through the nature of their construction and surfaces necessary to their function, and this was no different.

Wallsorba Type A panels were installed at high level in the sports hall to absorb the echo and reverberant noise. The Wallsorba Tee Joint Panel is the most economical, utilising white UPVC fixing sections. These panels have cut edges on all four sides. The Upvc sections serve two functions, one is to decoratively mask the edges and the other is as structural fixing sections.

This system is the most flexible as panels can be cut onsite to suit wall dimensions. The fabric finish is adhered to the front face only and will remain in place even when the panels are cut. The raw edges are hidden by the fixing trims. The school was very satisfied with the end result. The acoustic panels made it a lot easier to communicate when teaching and during activities.
