Wallsorba Improves Acoustics at Whiteleaf Scout's Group

The Whiteleaf Scout Group building was built to fulfil a number of needs within the local community. These range from small weddings, Barn dances and childrens playgroups to sports activities such as badminton. However, the Management Committee found that the Main Hall had terrible acoustics and could not be used for all of these activities. Also people who wanted to hire the hall for their own uses such as music and live bands refrained in doing so due to the poor acoustics. There was a great loss of revenue due to the poor acoustics of the Hall. The acoustic problems were caused by the Hall having large areas of hard reflective surfaces. The sound was hitting these surfaces and was being pushed back into the Hall resulting in very high reverberation times.

A scheme was engineered, in conjunction with the Architect from the local council to significantly change the acoustics. This was done by using the Wallsorba acoustic wall panelling at high level as a horizontal band on the walls. The advantage of using Wallsorba acoustic panels is that they provide a high level of sound absorption, having a Noise Reduction Coefficient of 92%. The panels are also robust and can take impacts from balls etc. hitting them. The Wallsorba system comes complete with fixing sections to enable easy installation on site.

These panels are designed as a D.I.Y system which any person can install easily. The panels are available in 40 standard colours. The acoustic panels were fixed at high level to the painted block work walls to a height of approximately 1500mm. Once the panels had been installed the improved acoustics were noted by all the scout leaders as well as the other users of the Hall.
